Once a legendary military post, over the past two decades the Presidio has been transforming into a great national park site thanks to the support of people like you! Today the 1,500-acre Presidio offers iconic views, 24 miles of trails, adventures and learning opportunities for families, and places to restore and relax in nature. We are proud to be a healthy refuge and a great escape for San Francisco, but there is still much to do. Below are just some of the programs that community support helps make possible.

Free Events and Programs for All
Each year the Presidio offers hundreds of events, activities, and festivals that are free to all. From outdoor family movie nights to live music, art exhibitions to craft days for kids, community picnics to nature hikes, there is truly something for everyone.

Education for Kids
The Presidio plays a meaningful role in the lives of Bay Area youth. Each year, thousands kids come to the park to learn about history and the great outdoors through school field trips. The Camping at the Presidio program, offered with the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, also welcomes thousands of young people who wouldn’t otherwise have access to a national park camping experience.

Restoring Natural and Cultural Treasures
Over the past two decades, the Presidio’s wild open spaces and historic treasures have been revitalized, from Crissy Field to Mountain Lake. More than 355 historic buildings have been given new life, including the Presidio Officers’ Club, San Francisco’s most historic building, now a cultural destination. The aging forest is being replanted, and native habitats are being restored to welcome birds, butterflies, and other wildlife.

Serving our Veterans
Generations of Americans served in the U.S. Army at the Presidio, and in 2017 the Presidio Trust will launch a new effort to support today’s military veterans.
